Responsibilities & Opportunities

Support the Gastonia, NC manufacturing supply chain operation through careful review of demand and releases on all purchases, and find efficiencies in the daily work load to ensure that the position becomes more strategic rather than tactical.    

  • Purchase required raw materials, office supplies, maintenance and production supplies
  • Work with Procurement to get the best possible price based on market conditions
  • Analyze existing inventory with business needs and make decisions to maximize profitability without compromising efficiency
  • Communicate with relevant departments regarding their purchasing needs; make suggestions regarding alternate vendors, pricing, etc. 
  • Where needed, challenge internal personnel regarding timing or quantity of purchases, to maximize profitability and efficiency of the business
  • Provide NAFTA Certification to customers annually
  • Provide minority vendor information to customers
  • Analyze internal demand requirements and external market condition to identify areas of opportunity and improvement. 
  • Support sourcing efforts with Internal Customers and External Vendors
  • Coordinate with Procurement global buyers where appropriate and ensure compliance with contracts
  • Issue RFX, perform bid comparison and vendor evaluation, lead award decisions, negotiate contract terms, coordinate with Legal, and ensure on-going contract compliance.
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Some domestic travel may be required
  • Track progress with regard to compliance with preferred vendors, use of appropriate process and controls, and savings.
  • Report savings and compliance metrics monthly.
  • Continually assess and improve sourcing and commodity management processes. 
  • Drive regional efficiency improvements through automation and process simplification
  • Serve as the procurement department’s lead the region to ensure compliance to processes and procedural requirements
  • Continually assess and improve supplier’s performance.

Preferred Skills

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Purchasing, or related. 
  • Minimum Experience: 3-5 years working as a buyer/purchaser for an automotive OEM or supplier
  • Must possess excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written communication)
  • Must work well independently and in an organized manner
  • Must demonstrate the ability to analyze data and make decisions regarding quantity and timing of orders to ensure maximum efficiency and profitability of the business 
  • Must work well under pressure
  • Must demonstrate the ability to weigh multiple alternatives and arrive at the optimal solution for the business
  • Must have at least five years experience with various MS Office applications, particularly MS Excel, and minimum three years experience with ERP systems, MRP, Kanban, or JIT concepts
